How to Copy a Base in Clash of Clans and Fix Layout Links

A layout link is the fastest way to try a proven base: tap it, pick a slot, done. When it works. Here’s how links work, where the copied base goes, why some links refuse to open, and how to share your own.

How layout links work

A layout link looks like link.clashofclans.com/en/?action=OpenLayout&id=…. The id starts with the Town Hall level, so the game knows which village it belongs to. Open the link on the phone where you play: Clash of Clans opens with the base ready to save. On a computer the link only shows a Supercell page with an “Open Clash of Clans” button.

When you import, you choose the slot. A Home Village layout can be saved as a home layout or a war base. If you’re missing buildings from the original, those spots stay empty; extra buildings you own go to the inventory for you to place.

The Town Hall hub on the home page lists popular layouts for each Town Hall with a “Copy to my village” button.

At a glance

A base link copies a layout, not the buildings

1Open on the playing deviceUse the layout link.
2Choose a layout slotHome and war layouts are separate.
3Check, then savePlace extra buildings and fill any gaps.

Missing buildings stay missing. Importing a higher-level base does not unlock its defenses.

Before a war, check the saved war base rather than assuming the Home Village layout changed too.

Home, war and Ranked layouts

  • Home and war bases are separate. Your war base is set in the Layout Editor and checked before each war.
  • Ranked uses its own active layout. It’s snapshotted when you’re placed in a league group on Monday; changes after that apply to the next week. Since April 2026 you can edit it from the Tournament screen.
  • Slots. The Clash of Clans Wiki lists 3 Home Village slots, 6 war base slots (3 free, 3 bought with Gems) and 3 Builder Base slots. Recent updates may have changed this, so check your Layout Editor.

Why a link won’t open

  • Wrong Town Hall. The base was made for a different Town Hall or Builder Hall. You need the matching level, or close to it.
  • Opened on a computer. Open the link on your phone. Players on the PC version through Google Play Games report that browser links don’t reach the game.
  • Old link. A link is a snapshot from the moment it was shared, and links that go unused for a long time stop working.
  • Layout reset. Supercell resets layouts that are offensive or abuse a bug, so the base you saw may no longer exist.

How to share your own base

Open the Layout Editor, pick the layout and use the share button: post it in clan chat or copy an external link. The link captures the layout as it is now, so after editing it you need to share a new link. The official API doesn’t include layouts, so no stats site can pull a base link from someone’s profile.

Quick questions

Can I get the link for someone else’s base?

Only the owner can share a link. When visiting a clanmate’s village you can copy it if your Town Halls are no more than one level apart.

Will a copied layout replace my current base?

Only the slot you choose. Your other layouts stay as they are until you set the new one as active.

Does a war base link work for my home base?

Yes. A Home Village layout can be saved as either a home layout or a war base.
